They have stopped allowing downloads, but still ship the fonts with Windows. Verdana is a sans-serif replacement. Its lowercase letters are very large, compared to the overall size of the font, which makes text easy to read on the web. Unfortunately, the stretching of Verdana lowercase letters has two drawbacks. One issue is that the stretched letters don't look quite right when printed—compare them to Arial, for example.

The other problem is that some people don't have the Verdana font, and these people may have trouble reading a web page that uses Verdana. The problem is that while 9 pt Verdana is readable, 9 pt Arial is not readable, and a person who doesn't have Verdana will probably have their web browser choose Arial as the substitute font.

Does anyone know where Ahoma font can be obtained? The Ahoma font is the cleanest appearing font I've seen. Bernie, AF9US - Larry Levesque KA1VGM. Larry, Stephen, David and Richard: You are correct, ahoma is the same font as Tahoma. After comparing the two in FLDigi Windows version it became obvious.

In the Windows version of FLDigi, Tahoma font is in the list of fonts to be selected. After a bit of gyration with Font Book, Tahoma font became available in the selection list of the Mac version of FLDigi.

Font Book shows Tahoma font with sub-listings of Normal, Regular, Bold and Negreta. Normal and Regular fonts appear to be identical.

And, Bold and Negreta appear to be identical, as viewed in Font Book. In Font Book, Regular and Bold fonts have the label “off”.

After validating the fonts in Font Book, both Regular and Bold are labeled duplicate. That is Regular is a duplicate of Normal, and Bold is a duplicate of Negreta. Upon further investigation, I discovered Tahoma Normal and Negreta are Mac fonts.

And that Tahoma Regular and Bold are Microsoft fonts. Mac fonts are located in LavezzaMac/Library/Fonts, whereas, Microsoft fonts are located in LavezzaMac/System/Fonts/Microsoft. Both font files are named Tahoma. The Microsoft fonts, I believe, were installed with Microsoft Office for Mac, on both the MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini. When the Microsoft Tahoma file was moved to trash, Word does not have Tahoma in its list of available fonts. And, FLDigi (Mac version) does not have Tahoma in its list of available fonts.

Upon putting Tahoma font back in the Microsoft font directory, Word has Tahoma Regular and Bold available. And, unexpectedly, FLDigi Mac Version has Tahoma font available.

Tahoma Font Available For Mac

It appears that deleting Microsoft Tahoma font, then putting back Microsoft Tahoma Font, made Tahoma font available to FLDigi Mac version. I am guessing it is either a bug in fldigi or in how Windows is presenting the font. It is the same font. If you go into the control pane and search for fonts, you will see there is no ahoma font.
